Two of the nation's most popular breweries is toasting World Sausage Roll Day with a drink produced in homage to the savoury snack.
The breweries - The Wild Beer Co. and Bin Day Brewing - have linked up to develop the first beer produced especially to be paired with a sausage roll, which they have called ‘Roll With It’. The beer features tangy apple notes - from Somerset apple juice - with a light, crisp and refreshing finish, building on how pork is paired with apple sauce.
Somerset farmhouse brewery The Wild Beer Co., which is no stranger to using experimental methods and ingredients to create the unique flavours. It created a ‘mini mash’ in a barrel which was then heated with red basalt rocks that had been heated to around 500C in a pizza oven. This medieval batch was caramelised and introduced to a larger mash and eventually blended with apple juice for that sweet tang.
