More than two years after we learned of Brett Favre’s involvement in one of the most stunning embezzlement scandals in Mississippi history, he’s now one of 38 defendants accused of misusing welfare funds intended to alleviate poverty in the most impoverished state in the nation.
Favre’s role in the scheme is tied to his relationship with Nancy New, a nonprofit director who had access to millions in welfare funds, and John Davis, the disgraced former director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) who allocated the money in the first place —including $68 million in federal welfare money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
