Brentford have ramped up their interest in signing forward Mykhaylo Mudryk and could hijack a move by Arsenal on the final day before the transfer window closes.
However, Thomas Frank faces competition from not just across London for the talented 21-year-old, with clubs across Europe interested in his signature. If the Bees meet Shakhtar Donetsk's rumoured asking price of at least £25m it would be a club transfer record after paying £17.1m for winger Keane Lewis-Potter earlier this summer.
It is not the first time Brentford have moved in for the Ukrainian, who can play across the forward line, after having an offer rejected last winter.
Mudryk known for his ball control and delivery from set pieces made his international debut for Ukraine in May and scored in a friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Arsenal were believed to be in a position to tempt Mudryk to London but their interested has waned.
Brentford are looking to bolster an attack which has scored 10 goals in their opening five games but will have to make a swift move for the youngster who has been dubbed the 'Ukrainian Neymar' by fans.
If Mudryk signed for Brentford he would miss the chance of playing Champions League football with Shakhtar Donetsk but the lure of playing in the Premier League and moving to London may tempt the 21-year-old.
Arsenal had shown interest in the Ukrainian but have now reportedly submitted a £20m bid for Brazilian midfielder Danilo from Palmeiras. Mikel Arteta is currently looking for reinforcements after injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.
Brentford have already spent £45m this summer but head coach Thomas Frank hasn't ruled out one final arrival before the transfer window shuts.
He said earlier this week: “Maybe Phil (Giles, director of football) will have a small present for me, I don’t know. We are in the market and we are looking but we are not desperate at all.”
