Brentford demand revealed as midfielder seeks move away before transfer deadline

Brentford are yet to receive any offers for Frank Onyeka, who is looking to leave the club in search of game time.

The midfielder made just 11 Premier League starts last season, leaving the Bees for two months in January to play a key role in Nigeria’s run to the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen and Vitaly Janelt are all ahead of Onyeka in the midfield pecking order at Brentford, with the 26-year-old having made late cameos in the Bees’ opening two league games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Clubs in Spain, France and England are keeping tabs on Onyeka and considering a move before the end of the window, but Brentford are not prepared to loan him out as they were in January. They will only consider permanent transfer approaches for Onyeka this summer.

He is now understood to be keen on a move that allows him to play more regular football, but that depends on bids being made in the final five days of the window.

The Nigeria international signed a new contract with Brentford last summer which runs until June 2027 and includes a club option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Everton and Fulham were linked with moves for Onyeka in January, but he remained at Brentford.
