Brentford boss Thomas Frank could miss Frank Lampard's first game in charge of Everton

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank could miss Frank Lampard’s first game in charge of Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19.

The west London club revealed that their Danish boss tested positive as he prepared to return to training after the Premier League winter break.

Brentford’s training this week has been taken by other members of the first-team staff with many players also involved in a behind closed doors friendly against Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Frank, who guided Brentford to a 1-0 win over the Blues in the Premier League back in November, will return to work when he has submitted two negative COVID-19 tests, in line with the current regulations.

If the 48-year-old does not do this ahead of the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Everton on Saturday, he will not be at Goodison Park.

Assistant head coach Brian Riemer will take charge on Saturday if Frank cannot attend.

Brentford say Frank has been in constant communication with the coaching staff this week and will speak to the media today from his home to conduct his pre-match press conference for this weekend’s fixture.
