'Always crying' - Nottingham Forest hero Taiwo Awoniyi opens up on injury nightmare

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi opened up on the injury hell that saw him miss three months of the 2022-23 season.

The forward, signed last summer from Union Berlin, suffered a groin injury that saw him on the sidelines from January until April. He had blood taken from his leg every week for three months, he said, and the time out had an impact on his family.

His mother was crying "almost every day" and his wife was "always crying", the striker said, as he spoke about how he got through the difficult period by supporting his teammates.

Aston Villa in Brennan Johnson transfer link as 'interest building' in Nottingham Forest star

Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson has interest building from several clubs including Aston Villa, claims the Daily Mail.

Everton and West Ham are already said to be “keen” on the 22-year-old Reds star who scored eight Premier League goals in his debut top-flight season as the Reds avoided relegation under head coach Steve Cooper. Those performances have attracted interest from elsewhere in the country.

The Mail reported last week that Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham are both interested in signing Johnson who, the report claims, is valued at £40million by Forest, saying they will be preparing to “battle it out” for his signature during the summer transfer market.

However, doing a deal appears tricky as a number of clubs have been linked and his agent has indicated Lodi is keen to play on the biggest stage possible.

Benfica, Newcastle United, Corinthians, Santos, Palmeiras, Flamengo and Athletico Paranaense have been credited with an interest. The 25-year-old has been using the latter’s facilities to keep fit during the off-season, having come up through the ranks there before his move to Spain in 2019, but a return to his Brazilian homeland has been ruled out.
