Brendan Rodgers under Leicester pressure as former Celtic boss sends 'not had help' message to board

Brendan Rodgers has hit out at the lack of support he's had in the transfer market as the Celtic invincible squad manager comes under increasing pressure at Leicester City.

His Foxes team went down 1-0 losers to Manchester United in their latest Premier League match as the clock ticked down on deadline day, where his club have been largely inactive. That's despite Wesley Fofana joining Chelsea for big money but chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has been unwilling to bankroll lots of summer spending, with Wout Faes arriving to bolster their defensive options.

They are reeling after collective losses of £120m over the past five years which have left them fearing falling foul of UEFA's spending rules but that's no consolation to Rodgers, who left Celtic in 2019 for the Premier League again. He told BT the team haven't been helped in the window: "With the greatest respect, we have not had the help in the transfer market that this team has needed.

"It has been a huge distraction. It is destabilizing for the group and the mentality, but these are a good bunch of guys.

"Once we get the win confidence will grow and they will be fine. In modern football there is no empathy, it is what it is. We want to be competitive."

He added to the BBC: "It is a poor start, that is the reality for us. We have circumstances that haven't helped us, that is for sure. We won't hide."
