Brendan Rodgers reveals he turned down two offers to leave Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has made the stunning revelation that he turned down multiple job offers to leave Leicester City.

The Foxes boss took over as manager in 2019 and lead the team to consecutive fifth placed finishes in 2020 and 2021. An eighth placed finish last season and a lacklustre start to this season had the Northern Irishman under severe pressure, but a 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Monday night gave Leicester their first victory of the season.

But the boss insists that he never felt the pressure despite the wretched start to the season. Furthermore, Rodgers spoke about the strong bond he shares with the owners, and stunningly revealed that he twice turned down offers to become the manager of other clubs.

When asked if he needed the support of the owners Rodgers replied, " “I don’t need it. I really don’t."

“I spoke to Top before the game but he has been over for other games when we have been losing. He and his family and the other staff here have always been super supportive of me.

“They understand the challenges we’ve had over the summer. They understand the difficulties and where I’m coming from.

“But they know they have total respect from me so I don’t need Top or anyone to sit me down. They trust I can do the job.

“They know my loyalty to here because I stayed when maybe I could have left.

“But that doesn’t mean they owe me anything. I want to do it for the club, the fans, the supporters and they trust me to do that. And if I don’t they’ll tell me.”

Asked directly when it was he had the opportunity to leave, Rodgers said: “It’s a different story. Twice.”

The former Liverpool boss was heavily linked to the Arsenal job before Mikel Arteta was handed the job in 2019, while he was also courted by Newcastle following Steve Bruce's departure a year ago.
