Brendan Rodgers has been urged to exert the same control he had at Celtic amid the ‘toxic’ Leicester City situation he's currently enduring.
The former Parkhead boss has endured a desperately slow transfer window so far. Leicester have signed just one player since the window opened, adding third choice goalkeeper Alex Smithies on a free transfer from Cardiff. Chelsea are chasing centre back Wesley Fofana, and his £80million transfer fee could allow Rodgers to splash the cash in reinforcements.
The Northern Irishman is keen to add ‘five or six players’ to his pool but has yet to make any noteworthy additions. They are badly needed as well, with the Foxes still seeking their first win of the season after drawing with Brentford and losing to Arsenal and Southampton respectively so far. Fans are concerned at the lack of transfer activity with Rodgers also frustrated at his inability to significantly boost his numbers.
It’s a far cry from his time in Glasgow. Rodgers oversaw a complete rebuild at Celtic Park and won trophy after trophy as the Hoops backed him with millions. And Tony Cascarino has urged him to stick it out in the East Midlands.
With his big names seemingly wanting to move on, Rodgers has been warned that he must show some ‘substance’ and guide the club through this challenging period rather than jumping ship, for which a number of Celtic fans still haven’t forgiven him.
Writing in his Times columns, Cascarino said: "The atmosphere at Leicester City at the moment is toxic and there will be part of Brendan Rodgers thinking about walking away - which is exactly what some of his best players want to do.
"He has to stick it out and show that he can get control of the situation. Celtic fans will remember that he left them because he thought the grass was greener with Leicester.
"He has to prove he has a bit of substance about him. If he does, it will mean as anything he has done when the going was good."
