Brendan Rodgers makes Everton 'luck' claim after Richarlison's late Leicester City equaliser

Brendan Rodgers believes there was 'a little bit of luck' regarding Everton's late leveller against Leicester City on Wednesday evening.

Richarlison got the better of Kasper Schmeichel with time running out at Goodison Park, finding the bottom left corner of the goal with the help of a minor deflection. A ball played into the box initially appeared to be heading to Salomon Rondon, though the Venezuelan could not take full control of the ball.

Ready to capitalise on the loose ball was the Blues' talented Brazilian made no mistake from close range as Frank Lampard's side salvaged a share of the spoils.

What could represent a vital point for the Toffees come the end of the season was a sickener for the visitors, who saw all three points snatched from their grasp in the dying embers of the match. Sharing his thoughts on the 1-1 scoreline after the full-time whistle, Rodgers was of the view Everton's equaliser came about in rather fortuitous fashion.

“Performance-wise, we were excellent in the game. We had more of the ball and once we got into the second half, we just needed a bit more composure in the final third and to close the game out," stated the Leicester boss.

“At 1-0, of course, you’ve got to keep going right until the end and we concede a goal. There’s a little bit of luck: Rondon goes to control it, it goes under his foot and the young guy finishes it well. But overall, performance-wise - you think of the great result Everton had here 11 days ago.

“The level the players played at was really high. It’s a young team, they’ve got to learn from these last couple of late goals but overall I’m delighted with how we played. We started the game ever so well. We showed our intent, controlled the game, had good positional play, our possession was good and I was really pleased.

“Of course, you always demand more quality but overall are pressing was good. We managed it pretty well but, of course, you always want better.”
