Brendan Rodgers urged Gareth Southgate to take James Maddison to the World Cup after the ace destroyed Nottingham Forest.
Maddison struck twice, either side of Harvey Barnes’ effort, including a free-kick. His heroics buried Forest as the Foxes climbed off the bottom of the table at the visitors’ expense.
Maddison, 25, who has one England cap, got a standing ovation when subbed late on after taking his tally to five goals before teeing up Patson Daka. He now has 14 goal involvements since May - the joint second highest in the Premier League - along with Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne. Only Erling Haaland has more with 17.
City boss Rodgers believes England should take the Leicester ace to Qatar despite Southgate continuing to ignore him as the Three Lions were relegated from the Nations League.
Rodgers said:“It’s such a shame, I think for the country and for James himself. You see his talent and his performance level in the last 18 months, there’s only Harry Kane who’s created and scored more goals than him.
“He’s an absolutely brilliant player and I really hope that in the next few months he can continue the form he’s shown for 18 months. Because if you want creativity and you want personality, he’s improved the defensive side of his game, he can play in a couple of positions and for me he’s an absolutely outstanding player.
“I love Phil Foden, Mason Mount, those boys that play there - Jack Grealish is different, he plays from the side - but Madders can play in a number of positions to a high level and he showed that tonight.”
The Foxes boss then praised Maddison’s work ethic and the growth he has seen since working with him: “He’s 25, when I first came into here, you saw his haircuts and his bags and he’s matured.
“He’s a great, great lad. To work with him every day, it’s an absolute joy to watch him. He’s become a father, he’s matured in his game, is very focused and of course he wants to play.
“But this is a guy who would be so supportive and just to have him there if you’re ever in trouble… he can pick a piss, you’ve seen his free kick tonight - he’s got so many qualities that I think deserve him to be in the squad.”
Rodgers showed his side footage in the build up of Forest dumping Leicester 4-1 out of the FA Cup last term. They responded with three goals in ten minutes after Maddison opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
On his continued England omission, Maddison said: “It is a weird situation because we have been bottom of the league but I don’t remember feeling better than I have been playing.”
