Leicester City will dish out more than £18m in compensation for Brendan Rodgers IF they wield the axe on the struggling Irishman.
The 49-year-old admitted after the Foxes' 6-2 drubbing against Tottenham that he would hold no grudges if the club's owners called time on his three-and-a-half year reign at the King Power Stadium. Rodgers has almost three years left to run on his £200,000-a-week contract, which expires in 2025. Leicester paid £8m to prise him away from Celtic in 2019, and are on the verge of a £10m outlay if they sack him now - which would take the total cost of his tenure to £18m in compensation.
Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has a major call to make with his side losing six of their first seven league games, which has left them marooned at the bottom of the English Premier League. Speaking after the defeat to Spurs, Rodgers said: "Whatever their decision is, I will always respect it. The owners will do what it is they feel they need to do. I’m not daft, I know football, and the last six games don’t make great reading. But I have every confidence the team can push on and climb the table. I come in every day and do my work, but you’ve got to win games. I understand the frustrations of supporters and I can’t hide from that. It’s my responsibility.”
Brentford boss Thomas Frank and free agent Sean Dyche are understood to be high on Leicester's wanted list if time is called on Rodgers' time in the East Midlands.
Rodgers has secured two fifth place finishes with Leicester, as well as an FA Cup triumph in 2021. The Irishman's work has been heralded, however, results have been hard to come by this season on the back of an up and down campaign last year.
