Brendan Gleeson to host iconic US comedy show Saturday Night Live

Brendan Gleeson will host the iconic US TV comedy show Saturday Night Live for the first time in October.

The Dublin born Harry Potter star, 67, will make his debut on the popular Saturday night show on 8 October - the second show of the new season.

NBC announced on Tuesday that “SNL” will return with three consecutive shows on, featuring three first-time hosts, amid a big shift in cast members on the show.

Singer Willow will join Gleeson’s episode as musical guest, her first time on SNL.

First up as host is Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller, who will open the “SNL” season with musical guest Kendrick Lamar.

Megan Thee Stallion will pull double duty as both host and musical guest later on in the new season.

Gleeson is following in the footsteps of his pal and co-star Colin Farrell, who has previously hosted the show, as well as fellow Irish stars Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson and Saoirse Ronan.

The guest role news comes as InBruges co-stars Gleeson and Farrell get set for their will next big screen outing opposite Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan in Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin.

The film recently proved a winner at the Venice International Film Festival, and has since garnered Oscar commotion.

It opens in cinemas on Friday 21 October.
