Saturday Night Live dove headfirst into internet drama last week, parodying media fascination with the Try Guys cheating revelation, a YouTube production group that began at Buzzfeed.

The sketch made light of the fallout after Ned Fulmer, married co-founder of the Try Guys, was fired and removed from future content after confessing to a relationship with a producer of the company.

Host Brendan Gleeson played a White House reporter interrupting a CNN anchor (Ego Nwodim) with breaking news of the online drama.

In the joke of comparison, Gleeson continued to cut off reports on global stories with further updates of the unfolding issue.

Like many of the audience, who may have been unaware of the news story, Nowdim asked: “What in the world is a Try Guy?”

Recreating the scene of the viral video where remaining Try Guys Eugene Lee Yang, Zach Kornfeld, and Keith Habersberger issued their responses, SNL cast members exaggerated the intensity of their statements.

Referencing Fulmer’s real-life comments (“[I] had a consensual workplace relationship”) comedian Mikey Day, as Kornfeld, said: “He committed the heinous act of having a consensual kiss, and not telling us, his friends.

“We’re all still processing this horrific, violent, and probably racist tragedy.”

Bowen Yang, as Try Guy Yang, added: “We hope he is somewhere on his back, with a bullet in his brain and belly.”

Gleeson, doubling as a Try Guy enthusiast, thanks the trio for their bravery, while Nwodim notes that the group are millionaires.

Although this is not SNL’s first take on influencer apologies, the sketch was met with backlash from Try Guys viewers for their insensitive approach.

One user tweeted: “Did SNL just gaslight the Try Guys?”

“What I learned from this [sketch] is, it’s more acceptable for a man to cheat on his wife than it is for men to have feelings,” another user added.

Gleeson was joined by other stars, including musical guest Willow Smith, and his In Bruges co-star Colin Farrell.
