Breedon, one of UK’s largest construction materials groups, has bought County Antrim quarrying and concrete block business Robinson Quarry Masters.
The deal is part of a trio of acquisitions worth up to £19 million and sees the family owned business come under the parent company’s name.
Robinson’s Quarry Masters have been in business for more than 45 years and has around 35 staff operating from its 150 acre site near Ballymena. It manufactures quarry and concrete block productions for a wide range of construction and other uses and Breedon said the purchase will build its aggregate reserves on the island of Ireland.
At the same time as acquiring Robinson Quarry Masters, Breedon has also bought Broome Bros, a manufacturer of concrete blocks based in Doncaster, adjacent to one of its existing ready-mixed concrete sites, as well as Lincoln-based Minster Surfacing Limited.
The purchase comes just days after the new parent Breedon was admitted to the main market of the London Stock Exchange, prior to which it had been listed on the Alternative Investment Market, the primary listing for smaller companies.
The Leicestershire-based company has been on a strong growth trajectory in recent years, both organically and through similar acquisitions.
“Many of our transactions come to us through our local knowledge and personal engagement with the owners,” Rob Wood, Chief Executive Officer of Breedon said. “As a result, our active M&A mergers and acquisition) pipeline has continued to yield high quality, earnings enhancing opportunities that will enable us to progress our sustainable growth strategy.
“Each of these independent family-run businesses is aligned with our vertically-integrated operating model, providing further opportunity to pull through upstream building materials while extending our downstream footprint to deliver profitable growth. We are delighted to welcome our new colleagues to Breedon and look forward to working with them.”
