State funding totaling $1.3 million is going towards flood recovery and construction projects in Breathitt County.
That includes $538,125 dollars in flood recovery money. Two senior living apartments and an elevator at Federal Place Apartment Complex in Jackson are set to be restored after being damaged during last year’s flooding. The apartments will also be compliant with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The project is the first announced to benefit from the state’s Disaster Recovery Program funds, which were originally announced in 2021.
A total of $120 million in funding is going towards communities affected by 2021 flooding in Eastern Kentucky and tornadoes in Western Kentucky. Graves, Warren, Hopkins and Breathitt counties will get the majority of the money.
Another $750,000 from the Community Development Block Grant program will help support accessibility renovations like a new elevator and ADA-compliant ramps and restrooms for the Breathitt County Courthouse.
New playground equipment for Jackson’s Douthitt Park is also set to be purchased using a $50,000 grant from the federal Land & Water Conservation fund.
