A police investigation has been launched after a 50-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on a busy East Kilbride road.
The woman was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow after the horror crash shortly before 8am this morning and her injuries are unknown at this time.
Police have closed the Queensway towards College Milton and Centre 1, heading from McDonald's, with long tailbacks in the area reported.
Witnesses also reported that an artic lorry had to swerve to avoid the accident.
Sergeant Scott Anderson told Lanarkshire Live : "About 7.40am this morning at Queensway, East Kilbride, a 50-year-old female was struck by a vehicle.
"The female was conveyed to QEUH and the severity of her injuries are unknown.
"Police are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing. The roadway will remain closed at this time while investigations continue."
A source told Lanarkshire Live that businesses in the area have been "blocked in" with staff and customers unable to get in or out of the industrial estate that meets with the road.
