A woman has died after falling from a bridge over the M61 motorway.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 11am this morning (Monday) after receiving reports of concern for the welfare of woman. The motorway was fully shut off both ways between Bolton and Chorley.
Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene after falling from the bridge, police said. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The motorway was fully closed off for more than an hour after the incident, with diversion routes put in place. All lanes have since been reopened.
In a statement, a Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at shortly after 11am to a report of a concern for welfare of a woman on a bridge over the M61 between Bolton and Chorley.
"Sadly, the woman fell from the bridge a short time later and despite the best efforts of emergency crews she was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing."
