The UK's entry for this year's Eurovision Song Contest has been confirmed ahead of the international competition heading to Liverpool in the coming months.
The latest performer to represent the UK will be singer Mae Muller, 25. She's set to take to the stage at the Liverpool Arena in May with the 'empowering' track I Wrote A Song.
The singer-songwriter - whose real name is Holly Mae Muller - is best known for featuring on Neiked's song Better Days alongside rapper Polo G, which was released in 2021. The track charted internationally following its release.
Mae - who's supported Little Mix on tour - has been selected to represent the nation at Eurovision, which will be hosted by the UK on behalf of last year's winning country Ukraine.
She's set to represent the UK with the track I Wrote A Song. Mae appears to have been promoting the song on social media recently, including on her TikTok account.
She seemingly discussed the song in a video that she shared on the platform yesterday, in which she appeared to suggest that it's "empowering" and "liberating".
She wrote: "This song is for the girlies that went through heartache, hurt or pain and came out of the other side, who persevered and came out stronger, who took the high road and chose to love themselves.
"Crying at home? Absolutely not. Spend the night at home? It's a no from me. Trash the benz? Too busy having a stunning time. It's giving growth. It's giving empowerment. It's giving liberation".
The song tells how Mae got her own back on an ex by pouring her heart into some lyrics, rather than by wrecking his stuff. She said in another video: "I was really annoyed at this guy, I wanted to do something crazy, maybe burn his house down, I don't know, but instead I took the high road and I wrote a song. And that's called growth, ladies and gentleman."
As news of Mae's involvement leaked this evening, the UK's odds of winning drifted from 12-1 to 29-1.
One Eurovision expert said: "Everyone has very high hopes after Sam Ryder finished runner-up last year. It's a big deal for the UK to be hosting the ceremony so Mae really needs to pull off a top ten finish. Let's hope she can do it."
Her participation in this year's Eurovision is set to be officially announced tomorrow morning from 8.30am on Zoe Ball's BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
The international singing competition is taking place on home soil for the first time since 1998, the year after Katrina and the Waves scored a victory with their song Love Shine a Light.
Mae will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Sam Ryder, 33, and James Newman, 37, who have represented the UK at the international contest in recent years.
Sam performed the entry Space Man in the contest last year, which was held in Italy. The UK placed second in the competition overall but had been first in the jury voting.
Tickets for this year's contest were released yesterday (March 7). Demand was described as "extremely high" and tickets for all nine shows were said to have sold out within 90 minutes.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 semi-finals will be held on May 9 and 11 at the Liverpool Arena, ahead of this year's Grand Final which will be hosted at the same venue on May 13.
