BREAKING: Trains disrupted and cancelled due to 'person being hit by train'

Train services have been cancelled or delayed after a person was hit by a train between Wilmslow and Crewe this morning (May 29).

Avanti West Coast, Northern, and Transport for Wales services have been cancelled at short notice due to the emergency services dealing with the incident. Network Rail say all lines have been closed with disruption expected until at least 1.15pm.

A Northern Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly service was terminated at Sandbach due to the incident with services from Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe being terminated at Manchester Airport or Wilmslow.

The line closure is affecting the following routes: Avanti West Coast services between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly; Northern services between Alderley Edge, Crewe, and Manchester Piccadilly; Transport for Wales services between Cardiff Central, Carmarthen, Milford Haven, Tenby, and Manchester Piccadilly.

Avanti West Coast services are running rail replacement services between Wilmslow and Macclesfield in both directions. Northern tickets are being accepted on East Midlands Rail and West Midland Trains between Crewe and Stoke-On-Trent and other services heading to Manchester Piccadilly.

A Network Rail statement says: "A person has been hit by a train between Crewe and Stockport. As all lines are currently closed, trains may be cancelled or diverted until approximately 13:30. If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat."
