Tottenham confirm loan transfer as forward joins Valencia for remainder of season

Tottenham have announced the loan move of Bryan Gil to Valencia CF ahead of the January transfer window deadline.

The Spaniard only made the move to north London in the summer, when he was part of a swap deal for Erik Lamela, who is now playing for Sevilla.

The 20-year-old had made 20 appearances for Spurs so far this season but has played just 86 minutes in the Premier League.

Gil has shown potential and energy when he has featured in games but has struggled to break into the regular line-up under Antonio Conte.

Tottenham announced the loan move of Gil until the end of the season, ahead of the January transfer window deadline.

The Spaniard becomes Spurs' second first-team loanee of the window, as Tanguy Ndombele's departure and return to his former club Lyon was announced on Monday too.

The move for the youngster may have come as a surprise to some as although Gil wasn't getting regular game time, making the move back to his country will only make him even less experienced with English football.

His new side Valencia currently sit tenth in La Liga and have won seven of their 22 games so far this season.

Gil's appearances have often come in cup competitions for Spurs and no matter the result, when he stepped on the pitch, the Spaniard put in 100 per cent fight to try and have an impact in a game.

However, a potential downfall of the 20-year-old was his strength and he would often find himself being dispossessed a number of times during matches.

At the end of September and when speaking to the media, the winger explained what he had been asked to do since his arrival.

"I have been requested to gain some weight and to improve my physical condition and learn English," Gil admitted. "I am focusing on that and adapting."

If the Spaniard can get regular game time with Valencia and make the improvements that were asked of him soon after his arrival, the 20-year-old could return to the capital a more confident and mature player.

When he returns to north London at the end of the season, he will hope to get more of an opportunity to play for the Lilywhites.
