Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is set to undergo surgery to remove his gallbladder after being diagnosed with cholecystitis. The club have said the procedure will take place today (Wednesday) and the Italian will then return following a period of recuperation.
Conte became Tottenham manager in November 2021 and was able to guide the club to a top four finish in the 2021/22 season with the shrewd January signings of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski key to their success.
Seven more players were signed by Conte in the summer with Ivan Persisic reuniting in north London with his former boss after the pair enjoyed success together at Inter Milan. Fraser Forster and Djed Spence were recruited as back-up options while Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet were signed as immediate first-team options. Destiny Udogie was also a summer acquisition but he was immediately loaned back to Udinese.

Tottenham currently sit fifth in the Premier League on 36 points with 11 wins from 21 games. The club also begin their Champions League knockout stage journey with a trip to AC Milan on February 14.
In his absence, first-team duties will likely be taken on by assistant coach Christian Stellini who has already filled in for Conte on a number of occasions this season.
Domestic cup press duties have often been conducted by Stellini and he was the man in the dugout for Spurs' crucial Champions League group stage win over Marseille. Conte meanwhile was in the stands after receiving a red card for his protests at the end of the home fixture with Sporting CP which ended in controversy after a late Harry Kane winner was disallowed by VAR for offside.
It is currently unclear how long Conte will be recovering for once his surgery has been conducted.
