Thunderstorms will lash parts of the UK today as the Met Office has also warned of hail and rain.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms today.
From noon to 10pm the warning is in place across South West England, the East Midlands and Wales.
Thunderstorms this afternoon could dump up to 20mm of rain in an hour with the possibility of 40mm falling in less than three hours.
The Met Office says showers are likely to weaken over parts of Wales and will persist over Central England and the Midlands.
Forecasters warn that driving conditions will be affected and that there may be delays to train services.
They also warn of the loss of power, flooding and potential damage from lightning strikes.
It follows a previous yellow weather warning for storms issued yesterday by the Met Office.
"Slow moving heavy showers and possible thunderstorms likely to cause some disruption early on Thursday," the Met Office stated for north western Wales.
After Wednesday was a day of rain to the west of the country and sunshine in the east, it is set to be a similar outlook for today - although the showers are likely to be more widespread.
BBC forecaster Chris Fawkes said: “Thursday is another day of sunshine and showers.
"What you will notice over the next few days is that the winds will become really quite light and so where those showers form and they are going to be quite widespread, they are going to be slow moving in nature, some of them turning heavy, with some hail and thunder, we might even get some flash flooding from the heaviest of the downpours as well.
"Temperatures similar to what we have seen over recent days, high teens across western areas, low 20Cs in the warmest spots further east."
The weather is, though, expected to become more settled by the weekend with temperatures rising next week.
Met Office forecast:
Today:
Sunny spells, but showers in the north and west at first, some heavy and slow moving, then developing elsewhere through the day. Risk of isolated thunderstorms and hail, particularly in southern and central parts later.
Tonight:
Areas of heavy showers over central England moving into parts of northeast England, else clear intervals and a few showers in the south and west.
Friday:
Another day of sunshine and showers, although some more persistent rain possible in northeast Scotland in the morning, then over Northern Ireland later.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
An unsettled weekend of sunny spells and scattered showers, occasionally heavy, mainly in the north and west. More settled from Monday with any rain becoming confined to the northwest.
