Ravensthorpe fire: Huge blaze at row of houses as crews battle growing flames

Several terraced houses have caught fire with crews working overnight to try and control the flames.

Firefighting crews from more than a dozen different fire stations in West Yorkshire were battling a huge blaze in a row of houses.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) was alerted to the blaze in Ravensthorpe, shortly after midnight, Yorkshire Live reports.

Video footage shows a house alight, and that emergency services have closed the road.

Unconfirmed reports on social media say eyewitnesses have described seeing up to four terraced houses on fire.

On its website, WYFRS says it has crews from Dewsbury, Cleckheaton, Rastrick, Ossett, Mirfield, Huddersfield, Featherstone, Otley, lkley, Hunslet, Bradford, Morley, Killingbeck and a Combined Aerial Rescue Pumps (CARP) from Wakefield at the scene.

Yorkshire Live said a major response was under way at the time if the blaze.

Operations have now been scaled down, but to fire engines remain at the scene after crews fought the inferno through the night.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) was alerted to the blaze in Queen Street, Ravensthorpe, shortly after midnight.

Video footage shows that a house is well alight, and that emergency services have closed the road.

Unconfirmed reports on social media say eyewitnesses have described seeing up to four terraced houses on fire.

At least 16 police cars were at the scene at the height of the blaze according to eye witnesses.

Firefighters battled to contain the flames after the blaze broke out just after midnight.

Crews are still at the scene dampening down the flames almost nine hours later.

There are no reports of any casualties at present.

The blaze affected a row of terraced houses with several properties affected.

The fire service updated the latest information which showed the operation had been scaled down with two crews still at the scene

In an update provided shortly before 8am, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two crews (Odsal and Illingworth) remain at the scene this morning alongside Bradford's ALP."

The fire follows another in Bristol a day earlier.

A huge blaze thenbroke out at a science and arts museum sending plumes of smoke billowing across the city.

Staff and members of the public at We The Curious were evacuated as police closed off multiple city centre roads and dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene.

Video footage and images shared on social media show thick grey smoke filling the air from the museum with reports of fire engines and police at the scene.

Onlookers gathered to watch as sirens blared and the emergency services entered from the back of the building, Bristol Live reports.

Around 40 firefighters were on the scene, with Avon Fire and Rescue Service initially receiving an emergency call at 2.05pm.
