Raheem Sterling left out of England squad for Euro qualifiers as Eberechi Eze called up

Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze has won his first senior England call-up.

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk is also back for the first time in four years for the Euro double header with Malta and North Macedonia on June 16 and 19 respectively.

Raheem Sterling has been left out as expected following talks between the Chelsea winger and Gareth Southgate.

But Marcus Rashford is included for the double header, and as well as Eze and Dunk, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Newcastle's Callum Wilson have been included.

There is also no place for Arsenal defender Ben White, Chelsea's Ben Chilwell or Newcastle's Nick Pope.

On Eze, Southgate said: "We've liked him for a long time. He was very unfortunate just before the Euros. We were going to call him into a prep camp and he got an injury.

"He has finished the season very strongly, he can play in a couple of positions across that front line. He has high quality and bursts of speed to go past players with those dribbling skills."

On Sterling's omission, he added: "I spoke with him a week or so ago. A general catch-up.

"He is not happy with his condition physically, carrying a hamstring problem. He wasn't really in consideration.

"He doesn't think he is operating at the level he needs.

"We are always mindful of the welfare of the players and we have to allow players time to recuperate but not to de-condition physically.

"Like every other country we have important qualification matches on our way to Germany.

"We have picked a strong squad and the players always enjoy coming here. I think we will manage it as well as we can."

England players will be given a week’s break after the domestic season ends with the Premier League before they have to report up for International duty.

Manchester City stars who will play in the Champions League final will report up two days after the game in Istanbul, being given time to take part in potential celebration parades.

It remains to be seen whether the likes of City stars like John Stones, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips will play against Malta but North Macedonia will be tough opponents and a stern test.
