The Premier League have released a statement demanding a review from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited following a controversial weekend of refereeing and VAR incidents.
League-leaders Arsenal were impacted as it emerged that VAR Lee Mason forgot to draw the relevant offside lines for Brentford's equaliser during their 1-1 draw with the Gunners on Saturday, with midfielder Christian Norgaard, who assisted goalscorer Ivan Toney, clearly offside in the build-up. Now, the league have released a statement condemning the officiating and urging the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to review and explain several incidents.
The league's statement read: "The Premier League sets high standards and is disappointed that PGMOL fell below those expectations last weekend. As a result, the Premier League requested that PGMOL review and explain a number of incidents from the recent match round.

"Following discussions with PGMOL, and yesterday’s Select Group One review meeting, we support PGMOL's views on addressing these issues to improve performances going forward."
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta expressed his frustration with the officiating, admitting that he won't be content unless the Gunners were to receive two extra points to their league tally. Speaking on Tuesday, Arteta said: "We ended the game after analysing all the evidence that we’ve had with the images with a huge anger and disappointment because that wasn’t a human error, that was a big not conceiving and understanding your job and that’s not acceptable, I’m sorry.
"That costs Arsenal two points that’s not going to be restored. We’re going to have to find those two points somewhere in the league. At the same time we appreciate the apology and the explanations and we got a lot of sympathy from colleagues in the industry and in football who say that we cannot play the game with the integrity like we do.
"That’s it. We have to move on. That has certainly made the players, staff and our fans stronger and given them more desire to pass this hurdle that they put on us. So we’re ready for it."
