Premier League clubs suspend agreement with Russian broadcast partner

Premier League clubs have unanimously decided to suspend the league's agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect.

The league says they 'strongly condemn' Russia's decision to invade Ukraine and they will also donate £1m to support the people struggling in the country.

A statement on the league's official website read: "The Premier League and its clubs today unanimously agreed to suspend our agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect and to donate £1million to support the people of Ukraine.

"The League strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those impacted.

"The £1million donation will be made to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to deliver humanitarian aid directly to those in need."

The decision follows a weekend of action at matches displaying league-wide support for Ukraine and its people. Captains wore special armbands, while fans joined players, managers, officials and staff in a moment of pre-game reflection.

Big screens also displayed the words "Football Stands Together" against the backdrop of the blue-and-yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag.

The statement continued: "This message of solidarity was visible to fans around the world across Premier League digital channels and via match broadcasts.

"This is in addition to the numerous ways in which clubs continue to display their support."

Whether the league plan to pledge further support to Ukraine remains to be seen, but for now, clubs are evidently united in their response to the war and its impact.
