Huge Channel 4 show SAS: Who Dares Wins 'axed' after eight series but spin-off will continue

A huge Channel 4 show has been axed after eight series, reports say.

The broadcast channel has cancelled popular programme SAS: Who Dares Wins amid rumours they are reviewing many of their popular shows.

They have now binned the military training show, which first launched in 2015, according to reports.

The show saw ex-army officials put a group of recruits through the Special Air Services screening process to test their mental, emotional and physical strength. However, the celebrity spin-off of the show will continue.

Stars from the show include Ant Middleton, who left in 2021, and Jamie Fox.

“Losing such a big-name show is a disturbing sign for C4 as it faces an uncertain future in a market which will be difficult for even the biggest broadcasters and streaming services.

“Although the show’s celebrity spin-off will continue, losing the civilian version will be worrying given that it’s one of the channel’s best-known brands. The fear now is that it may be a sign of things to come," a TV insider told The Sun.

In the latest series, which aired at the start of the year, 20 new recruits were put to the brutal test of the punishing jungle phase of SAS selection in Vietnam.

For six weeks, viewers tuned in for weekly instalments of the gruelling new tests of endurance, resilience and strength.

Fan favourite Special Forces staff who are on-hand to help the recruits navigate the challenges included Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox alongside Rudy Reyes, Chris Oliver and Chief Instructor Billy Billingham.

In 2022, SAS: Who Dares Wins saw its first all-female final as Shylla and Paige both made it through the gruelling weeks of intense trials.

TV hardman Ant was axed from SAS: Who Dares Wins back in 2021 with the makers of TV show said Ant's personal conduct was the sole reason for him leaving the show.

In a statement released to the Mirror, a Channel 4 Spokesman said: “Our decision not to renew Ant Middleton’s contract and not to work with him again was solely based on his personal conduct off-camera and is not related to his on-screen persona as a DS.

“SAS: Who Dares Wins will continue to be as tough as it’s ever been.”

It came after female members of the crew raised concerns with makers Minnow Films and Channel 4 during an end of year review where they were allowed to speak anonymously and said Ant had made “inappropriate comments” towards them.

However, a spokesman for Middleton refuted the allegations, claiming that he is "always disciplined and utterly professional".

Channel 4 said at the time, regarding complaints made against Middleton by the female crew on the show: "We can’t comment on anonymous allegations however we take issues of welfare very seriously.

"We clearly set out our expectations of behaviour in our Supplier Code of Conduct and any claims of behaviour that does not meet these standards would be looked into. We are satisfied that appropriate action has been taken.”

The celebrity spin off of SAS Who Dares Wins will still continue, as stars take on the gruelling challenges.
