Jerry Lee Lewis is alive contrary to reports he has passed away at the age of 87.
The Great Balls of Fire singer was earlier tonight reported to have passed away at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, by multiple media outlets.
The original story that he had died was published by TMZ in America but tonight they swiftly issued a denial and said they said they 'regret the error'.
Jerry was catapulted to fame with his 1957 hit, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, and went on to earn the nickname The Killer for his ability to knock out audiences - evening lighting his piano on fire to close out a show.
The Rock'n'Roll icon taught himself how to play the piano at a young age and was just 14-years-old when he performed in public for the first time.
The singer made his first recording in 1956 at Sun Records in Mephis.
His first big break came two years later with Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On. The song became an instant hit, propelling Jerry to fame worldwide.
He followed with Great Balls of Fire, Breathless and High School Confidential.
Following the scare earlier this evening, fans took to social media to express their happiness Jerry is alive and well.
"Long live Jerry Lee Lewis," one fan wrote on Twitter as TMZ explained how they had been conned by someone claiming to be the star's representative.
"Hang in there, Killer," another wrote, referring to the very-much alive star's famous nickname.
"Jerry Lee Lewis is NOT dead... phew," a third happy fan wrote, as another added: "Dead or Alive, thank you Jerry Lee. Legend."
Explaining their error earlier this evening, TMZ wrote on their site: "Earlier today we were told by someone claiming to be Lewis' rep that he had passed. That turned out not to be the case.
"TMZ regrets the error."
