Fulham earn promotion to the Premier League after 3-0 win over Preston North End

Fulham will be playing Premier League football next season after securing promotion from the Championship. Victory over Preston was enough to secure a safe return to the topflight after an exceptional season at Craven Cottage.

Aleksandar Mitrovic - the top scorer in the competition - was on hand to net a first-half brace as they eased past The Lilywhites to earn a 3-0 win. The Serbian opened the scoring in just the ninth minute before Fabio Carvalho doubled their lead in the 34th minute. Mitrovic then slotted home his second of the game four minutes before the end of the first-half.

Marco Silva's side have dominated the Championship this season and look on course to be named champions of the division before the end of the campaign. Bournemouth are in a solid position to finish as runners-up, although a few teams currently positioned in the play-off positions can still catch-up as things stand.

Fans paraded the pitch at the full-time whistle in jubilation as they congratulated the players for taking them back to the top division within just a year of asking. It means they've earned promotion for the third time in just five years, but this time they'll be hoping their stay in the Premier League is longer than just the one season.

If Mitrovic can continue in the rich vein of form he's been in, they may have be able to do exactly that. The 27-year-old has mustered 40 goals in the second division this campaign as he smashed the previous record of 31 goals held by Brentford's Ivan Toney.
