The Miami Dolphins entered the offseason with a hole at punter again, as Jake Bailey was set to hit the market and potentially force the team to find their fifth punter in five years.
However, before Bailey even became a free agent, the Dolphins locked him up on a two-year deal worth $4.2 million.
According to Over the Cap, he will receive base salaries of roughly $1.13 million in 2024 (fully guaranteed) and $1.98 million in 2025. His $1.1 million signing bonus is prorated for $550,000 in each year, and he has cap hits of $1.68 million in 2024 and $2.53 million in 2025.
According to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, Bailey also has up to $400,000 in incentives for Pro Bowl, All-Pro, net punt average and club improvements.
With this new deal, Bailey is likely guaranteed the job for this year, but they could cut him before the 2025 season and save $1.98 million of his $2.53 million cap hit.
Miami is hoping that he can fix the consistency issues that plagued him last season as well as continue to be a strong placeholder for Jason Sanders on field goals and extra-point attempts.
