So far, Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan has been aggressive in how he runs this team. His first draft in charge was 2023 and by all accounts was one of the best in many years. In hindsight, it feels like former GM Kevin Colbert mailed in his final few drafts. Here is a look at the last seven Steelers drafts and who is left on the team.
2023
Khan drafted seven players and all are on the team. Five of the seven played last season with three of them having huge roles on the team.
2022
The Steelers drafted seven players, six of whom are still on the team. Quarterback Kenny Pickett and wide receiver George Pickens highlight this draft.
2021
The Steelers drafted a remarkable nine players in 2021. Only four of those players are still on the Steelers with the news of punter Pressley Harvin III being released. This leaves running back Najee Harris, tight end Pat Freiermuth, offensive tackle Dan Moore and defensive lineman Isaiaihh Loudermilk on the team with three of them currently starters.
2020
The Steelers picked six players in this draft but sadly only outside linebacker Alex Highsmith is still on the team.
2019
Another draft with nine picks and this one included a trade up in the first round. Unfortunately, the only guy left is wide receiver Diontae Johnson who was selected in the third round.
2018
Pittsburgh drafted seven players and based on pending free agency for quarterback Mason Rudolph, none of them are still on the Steelers.
2017
The Steelers landed All-Pro linebacker T.J. Watt in this draft but alas, he’s the only guy left on the team out of eight total picks.
Overall
In the final analysis, here’s what we have.
In Colbert’s final six drafts from 2017-2022, the Steelers selected 46 players. Out of those 46, 13 remain on the Steelers roster. But if you remove 2022, we have 39 players selected from 2017-2021 and only seven of them are still around.
