A new £6.4 million supermarket for Castle Douglas has been given the green light.
Council officials had recommended the plans for an Aldi on Oakwell Road were refused due to fears of the impact it would have on existing businesses in the town.
But members of the planning applications committee went against that suggestion today as they approved the application, believing the benefits of new jobs and fewer people travelling to Dumfries for their shopping outweighed the potential negatives.
