He remains in police custody to be quizzed by detectives. The incident is believed to have been isolated, police said.

This morning, two forensics tents were in place and an area of the park at Bank Bridge Meadow was taped off. Crime scene investigators were pictured placing evidence markers on the ground near an area of woodland.

One local resident told the Manchester Evening News they saw six or seven police cars arrive on the scene at around 9.30pm last night. They said they saw officers enter the park from Fairclough Street and ‘wander around with torches'.
