Alexandria Virginia incident: Child aged 3 dies in fall from high-rise apartment

A three-year-old boy has died after falling from a high-rise apartment building.

Emergency services rushed to the scene for assistance after the tragic incident occurred in Alexandria, Virginia.

It was reported that the building from where the child fell has 13 floors, although it remains unclear what floor the child fell from.

Police confirmed to local news outlets that the child has sadly lost their life after the fall.

The circumstances under which the tragedy occurred remain unclear.

Alexandria Police has said that officers are on the scene investigating the accident.

Police confirmed that the infant fell from a window of the building.

Alexandria Police said: "In response to a death investigation, there is a moderate police presence in the 200 block of Yoakum Parkway. APD is on scene and investigating."

Alexandria Fire told 7News they responded to a call about a child falling from a high-rise building.

However, when they arrived at the location in Yoakum Parkway, they turned the scene over to the police.

Don Hayes, Chief of the Alexandria Police Department said that it was a three-year-old boy that lost his life.

According to Mr Hayes, the boy fell out of a window and succumbed to his injuries.

"I'm a grandparent, it's heartbreaking," said Cheif Don Hayes "I feel for the family."

It's not yet known what floor the victim possibly fell from, while an investigation into the circumstances under which the child fell from the window is ongoing.
