Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva recently underwent surgery in Sao Paulo to address a bleed on his brain that was linked to a fall he experienced at home in October. According to a medical note released by the government, the surgery was successful, and the 79-year-old president is currently in the intensive care unit, where he is being monitored closely. Doctors are scheduled to provide further details during a press conference at 9 a.m. local time.
The need for surgery arose after President Lula underwent an MRI in Brasilia following complaints of a headache. The scan revealed an intracranial hemorrhage, prompting his transfer to Sao Paulo's Sirio Libanes hospital for the procedure.
This incident follows a fall that President Lula had at home in late October, resulting in a small brain hemorrhage and head trauma that required stitches. Despite these initial complications, tests conducted in early November indicated that his condition had stabilized.
As a result of his health concerns, President Lula was advised by medical professionals to cancel a planned trip to Russia for a BRICS summit in Kazan. The recommendation was made to avoid long-haul flights and prioritize his recovery.
