Brazil hit with major injury blow as Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus ruled out of World Cup

Arsenal and Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus will miss the rest of the World Cup after injuring his knee.

Jesus picked up the injury during Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon on Friday night and he was taken off after just over an hour.

The striker is set to undergo further tests to confirm exactly how long he will be out for, but he will play no further part in Brazil’s World Cup campaign.

That is a big blow for Jesus, who had secured a place in the Brazil squad by excelling for Arsenal this season.

The 25-year-old endured a difficult World Cup four years ago in Russia, failing to score a goal during the tournament, and he admitted in the wake of that he had been “scarred” by what happened.

Jesus has bounced back from that, though, and he was determined to help Brazil go all the way in Qatar.

His World Cup is now over, though, and both he and Arsenal will be hoping the injury does not keep him out for an extended period of time.

Jesus had been complaining of discomfort in his knee during the defeat to Cameroon and further scans will look to get to the bottom of the cause.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League and will be back in action on Boxing Day, when they host West Ham.

The Gunners squad have been given some time off but are due to fly to Dubai this month for warm-weather training and friendlies.
