Brazil boss responds to Roy Keane after rant on "disrespectful" dancing at World Cup 2022

Brazil manager Tite has defended himself and his side after Roy Keane accused them of being "disrespectful" towards South Korea during their comprehensive 4-1 victory on Monday.

The Selecao stormed their way into the World Cup quarter-finals with an emphatic win and Tite's players made the most of every goal by indulging in lengthy celebrations. The 61-year-old coach even got involved when Richarlison made it 3-0, as members of the team and a raft of substitutes mimicked the Tottenham Hotspur striker's trademark pigeon dance.

Some fans enjoyed seeing Brazil show their flair on and off the pitch, but certainly not Keane. Speaking on ITV at half-time, when Brazil were already 4-0 up, the Manchester United legend proclaimed: "I don't like this," before adding: "I think it's disrespecting the opposition.

"It's four [goals] and they're doing it every time. I don't mind the first kind of little jig - whatever they're doing - but they're still doing it after that and then the manager getting involved with it.

"I'm not happy with it, I don't think it's very good at all."

Post-match, Tite was asked why he indulged in the players' antics and responded by saying that his decision to strut his stuff was all in the name of team bonding.

"I try to adapt to my players. They are very young and have a love of dancing, joking and making moves. They said I had to learn how to do the moves," the Brazil boss explained.

"They're very tight and difficult, but we kept playing around. Richarlison was there and I said, 'What's that dance?' I said, 'If you do it, then I'll do it'.

"There are various people who will say it was disrespectful. I know there's always a camera and I didn't want it to be misinterpreted."

Tite likely won't be losing any sleep over Keane's comments, especially after his team put in arguably the performance of the tournament so far - at least in the first half. Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior got the Selecao off to a perfect start after just seven minutes, curling in from close range.

Six minutes later, Brazil were awarded a penalty after Richarlison was deemed to have been clipped in the box. Neymar, on his return from injury, confidently tucked it home and South Korea already seemed out of the contest.

And before the half-hour mark, Richarlison scored his third goal of the tournament after some samba skills and cute interplay with Thiago Silva and Casemiro.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta then made it four by cooly finishing Vinicius' lobbed cross, although the second half was a different story.

As Tite's men took their foot off the gas, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker did well to keep a clean sheet for the Selecao, until the 76th minute, when substitute Seung-Ho Paik scored a spectacular consolation goal for South Korea, who ultimately went out with a whimper after edging through the group phase.
