A "brazen" sex pest who crept into an elderly woman's front yard and followed a 21-year-old woman home from work before exposing himself and performing sexual acts will remain in jail until the end of the month.
Daniel James Blake, a predator in his 40s whose behaviour left a 71-year-old woman unable to leave her home for a year and saw his second victim cancel her studies, was sentenced in Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
A risk assessment revealed Blake was more than five times more likely to sexually reoffend compared to a typical sexual offender and was considered "well above" the average risk of being charged with another sexual offence.
Judge Georgina Darcy sentenced Blake to 22 months imprisonment, backdated to June 2025, and said both victims were "vulnerable" in their own ways.
"There are some suggestions alcohol may have been a factor in two of the offences, you have shown some insight into your behaviour, saying you would likely have committed them irrespective of alcohol consumption," Judge Darcy said.
"There is a need to protect the community from you."
Just one month after Blake's parole ended for a separate incident of sexual intercourse without consent, he crept into the front lawn of a 71-year-old woman's home at 3.40am.
The woman had just woken up from a nightmare to find herself confronted with another one, opening her front door to find Blake standing there pleasuring himself wearing nothing but a balaclava.
About a month later, after driving up and down Beaumont Street, Blake homed in on his next victim.
He got out of his car and followed a 21-year-old woman, even after she began walking faster and crossed the road to get away from him.
When she reached her house at Islington, she turned around to find Blake hiding behind a pole with his pants off performing a sexual act.
The woman ran inside, only for Blake to walk into her front yard and continue his filthy show.
It was not until the woman yelled "what the f--- are you doing?" that Blake was startled and ran away.
In June, another woman was notified that the motion sensor on the CCTV outside her home at Hamilton South had been activated during the night.
When she reviewed the footage, she saw Blake, with his pants around his ankles and his shirt pulled over his face, masturbating in her front yard.
Director of Public Prosecutions solicitor Sarah Wiltshire said the victims were entitled to feel safe and secure.
Ms Wiltshire said Blake attempted to harm their autonomy, dignity and sense of security through his actions.
"The first victim couldn't leave home for 12 months and the second victim cancelled her studies, she had a fear of catching the train, going to work and any activity that involved walking alone," Ms Wiltshire said.
"Community protection should be at the forefront of the court's mind when sentencing Mr Blake given his brazen sexual offending against random women unknown to him."
The court heard the older woman suffered from flashbacks and nightmares and the younger woman felt she had lost parts of her identity.
Blake's solicitor told the court his client had shown remorse for his actions and suffered from an intellectual disability. He said Blake would benefit from a lengthy parole period where he will remain under supervision.
Blake was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment backdated to July 31, 2025 and will be released on parole at the end of August for nine months.
