An MSP is urging shops in Ayrshire to become collection points for stamps to support a former model who lost her leg to cancer.
Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown is fully behind Jacqui Napier’s campaign to raise awareness of sarcoma after the ex-catwalk star was recently told it was 'life or limb' when her disease returned.
The SNP politician now hopes town traders and businesses can join her in supporting mum-of-one Jacqui, 45.
Ayrshire Live told how Jacqui Napier, formerly McCloy, was learning to walk with a prosthetic leg following her cancer ordeal.
In a bid to raise awareness for vital research into the underfunded cancer, Jacqui, a former waitress at the Chestnut Hotel, has been collecting old stamps with 1kg of stamps enough to fund an hour of research.
Ms Brown met with Jacqui after hearing of her struggle with sarcoma which was first diagnosed when she was pregnant with her three-year-old son Lewis.
She then took Jacqui’s story to the Sarcoma Cancer UK stall in the Scottish Parliament.
Ms Brown told Ayrshire Live: “I was deeply moved by how brutally honest Jacqui is about losing her leg because of her cancer surgery. She has done so much to raise awareness of the rare form of the disease which she had.
“I wanted to learn more about it so I visited the Sarcoma Cancer UK stall in the Scottish Parliament earlier this year to tell them about Jacqui and find out more."
Ms Brown has promised to collect stamps at her office as she urged local traders to back the campaign.
“As part of her fundraising and awareness efforts," Ms Brown commented, "she is collecting used stamps for the British Cancer Research Trust to help them raise funds.
“My office also will be collecting stamps for her cause and I would encourage local businesses to become collection points so everyone of us can hand in the stamps.
“Jacqui really is an inspiration to all of us. It was wonderful to meet her and hear her story which really resonated with me as a mother of a young child. I wish her the best of luck in her endeavours.”
