Hornets rookie and 2023 No. 2 pick Brandon Miller has gotten off to a slow start during the NBA Summer League. Two games into his Summer League career, and Miller has left plenty to desire with his play on the court.
In particular, fouls have plagued Miller early on. The former Alabama standout has racked up 15 personal fouls in just two games, something only allowable due to the Summer League’s rules. In those two games, he has 24 points, nine rebounds, 10 assists and 10 turnovers. He totaled just six points on four shots during Wednesday’s loss against the Warriors.
It’s been far from an encouraging showing from Miller, and fans on Twitter have been quick to react.
While some fans are hastily characterizing him as a bust or saying Charlotte would have been better off drafting Scoot Henderson, others refuse to buy in to a couple of paltry performances during the offseason, voicing their expectation that he’ll be just fine when the regular season comes around.

It’s not wise to overreact to summer league - especially in such a small sample size - but I’ve held this opinion for a while:

Passing on Scoot Henderson for Brandon Miller will be an all-time mistake.
Through 2 games of Summer League, Brandon Miller has more personal fouls (15) and more turnovers (10) than made field goals (7).

Calling Brandon Miller a bust over 2 summer league games is unserious

Brandon Miller is going to shock the world when he wins ROTY, we not worried over him warming up and adapting in summer league

Remember when Jalen Brunson averaged 6.8 PPG on 22.7 FG% as a rookie in the Summer League? How about when Glen Rice Jr. won the 2014 SL MVP? Surely those performances were indicative of their NBA careers, right?

I wouldn’t overreact one way or the other with Brandon Miller.
The Brandon Miller statline in game two is even worse than game one

Brandon Miller composure looks good. Not getting down or frustrated.

He understands it’s just the summer league.
A lot of these other players not passing the ball because they not secured in the spot and safety on this team.
