The New York Jets rushing attack was very unimpressive in week 1 and rookie running back Braelon Allen didn’t even get a chance to make a difference. Will the Jets allow Allen to be an asset in week 2?
Allen is currently No. 2 on the team depth chart behind Breece Hall. Hall’s acclaim far exceeds the output he produced versus the San Francisco 49ers and fans our anticipating a bounce back game. However, with the Buffalo Bills off to a 2-0 season start, the New York Jets cannot afford another lack luster offensive performance from Hall.
Furthermore, transferring some of Hall’s touches to Allen makes sense for various reasons:
- To maintain the attrition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Jets need to focus on establishing the run and sustaining offensive drives.
- Also, by swapping fresh legs in and out of the lineup, Hall will have an opportunity to rest.
The Jets do in fact need Hall in the screen passing game and on those quick outside zone runs. Therefore, the Jets’ should give Allen some carries to help maintain the attrition of the offense.
