Brad Stevens says the Boston Celtics are looking at ways to ‘fortify … depth’ ahead of the trade deadline

Boston Celtics president Brad Stevens gave clues about the team’s trade deadline plans in an appearance on the 98.5 Sports Hub’s “Celtics Show,” per NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg.

Stevens said he believes the Celtics “always have to be looking at how we can improve because … I think we’re in the mix and I think we’re good, I think we’re hard to beat, but there are other teams that are like that, too.”

“We have a really good core that’s played together in big moments … and know how to get to where we ultimately want to go,” he added, contextualizing the goal of contention the team has with the roster it needs to do it with, which may have shown some signs of weakness in recent losses.

Stevens said Boston is looking into “how to fortify your depth, how to make sure you are as foolproof as possible.”

This lines up with much speculation as to what sort of moves — if any — the Celtics might make at the Feb. 9 deadline. The consensus has been that no major splashes are likely — but Boston could still pursue an impact player or two.
