Brad Pitt attempted to prevent his daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt from testifying about her custody preferences during his divorce battle with Angelina Jolie, according to a new report.
A source told Us Weekly that the teen wanted to testify at a 2021 hearing, expressing her preferences regarding the custody arrangement.
However, Shiloh, who was only 14 at the time, faced opposition from Pitt, now 60, who reportedly tried to block her from testifying.
Ultimately, the judge sided with Pitt’s objection, and Shiloh did not testify. The source did not disclose what Shiloh might have said had she taken the stand.
Last week, it was reported that Pitt was “aware and upset” that Shiloh has dropped his last name.
The Hollywood actor shares six children with ex-wife Jolie - three biological and three who are adopted.
Shiloh is his eldest biological child and is reported to have legally filed to become Shiloh Jolie on May 27, the date of her 18th birthday.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,” a source told People.
“The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
When Shiloh was born Pitt and Jolie had already adopted a daughter together.
Jolie and Pitt married in 2014. She filed for divorce in September 2016 after an incident in which she says the Fight Club star grabbed her by the head and attacked two of their children on an aeroplane.
Pitt also verbally abused and poured alcohol on his family during the flight from France to Los Angeles, she says. He has always denied the allegations.
Currently, their separation has not been finalised and a settlement agreement is yet to be reached.
The former couple are also involved in a legal battle over Chateau Miraval, a French winery they bought together.
Meanwhile, Pitt’s relationship with his children appears to have become increasingly strained over the years.Shiloh is the first to do so legally, but she is not the first of her siblings to seek a move away from the name Pitt.
Earlier this year, Pitt’s second biological daughter Vivienne, 15, dropped their father's last name in her listing in a Playbill programme for a production of The Outsiders on Broadway.
In 2023, Pitt’s eldest adopted daughter Zahara, 19, was captured on video introducing herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie”, on joining Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College.
