Boyzone's Ronan Keating 'slams' TodayFM over 'disgusting journalism' in cheeky jibe

Boyzone's Ronan Keating has jokingly slammed TodayFM for "disgusting journalism" after they got his age wrong.

The star took to Twitter during The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show to correct the mistake with a hilarious comment.

He said: "Well this is just disgusting journalism from @GiftGrubMario on @IanDempsey @TodayFM absolutely no time has been taken on research. I am 45 not 44 as clearly stated".

Impressionist Mario Rosenstock, who was responsible for the blunder during the GiftGrub skit and TodayFM, responded to the jibe, both seeing the funny side.

Mario replied to the tweet saying: "Superstar!" with a heart eyes emoji, while TodayFM apologised for the mistake, adding: "Ronan come back we didn't mean it", accompanied by both a crying emoji and a laughing one.

The joke comes after last week's GiftGrub segment saw Mario impersonating both Ronan and Keith Duffy as they called in to wish bandmate Mikey Graham a happy 50th birthday.

Speaking on the show stand in host Ray Foley said: "Hello there, Ray Foley filling in for Ian Dempsey this week. God help us for a Monday.

"I just wanted to check for Gift Grub this morning. I just wanted to check my voicemail because since we started at six, my phone is just hopping, but it's going straight, I have it set to go straight to voicemail because I don't want any interruptions.

"I want to be on peak performance for the broadcast."

Playing the 'voicemail inbox' for listeners, the GiftGrub segment got off to a flying start.

Listeners heard: "Hi, it's Ray here. Sorry I missed your call. Leave a message after the tone, and I'll try and call you back. Thanks."

"Ray, fair play. It's Ronan Keating here. You're playing an absolute corker. Well done. Listen, you wouldn't mind giving a quick shout-out to my Boyzone buddy, will ye? Mikey Gramham he's 50 today.

"I'm probably the only one in the band who remembered. You know yourself, they're all a pack of… anyway, it's all water under the bridge. Cheers, Ray, fair play."

The call was quickly followed by another from so-called Keith Duffy, 47, saying: "How'ya Ray buddy, It's Keith Duffy. Just pumping the guns down in body burn.

"Listen, will you give a shout-out to my buddy Mikey Gramham? He's 50 today, would you believe, 50 Mikey!

"I'm the only one in the band that will remember, sure, you know they're all a pack… anyway, you know yourself.

"Imagine Mickey 50. Dog eat dog, buddy. See ya."

The news comes after fellow Boyzone star Shane Lynch announced that he has decided to permanently leave show business as he "can't afford to go out on tour".

The Dubliner said he will however still appear on “The Real Housewives Of Cheshire” with his wife Sheena.

He told New magazine: “In the last year or so I’ve made the active decision to completely exit from the industry, whether that be music or TV.

"The only thing you’ll see me do is Real Housewives because that is part of our lives and they came into our home and it is all genuine.

“I happen to be a part of that, but my business life has gone to a whole new level and I’m happy with that.”
