Two boys armed with “flick knives” stabbed an older teenager to death following a confrontation with his friend in the early hours of the morning, a court has heard.
The youths, aged 14 and 15, have appeared at the Old Bailey at separate hearings charged with killing Jamal Coombes, 17, in Battersea, south London.
Police were called at around 4.20am on Saturday June 20 to reports of a stabbing on Glycena Road.
Medics also attended the scene where Jamal was found with multiple stab wounds and died at the scene.
The defendants, from Wandsworth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, were charged with murder and possession of a blade.
At an Old Bailey hearing for the older defendant on Thursday, the court heard allegations that the boys had been “out and about” on the streets of south London at 4am armed with flick knives when a confrontation occurred with another boy, who ran away.
The boy later returned with Jamal, who was stabbed three times, with one of the wounds proving fatal, the court heard.
Commenting on the alleged circumstances, Judge Mark Dennis KC said it appeared to be “another example of an urban cultural lifestyle” involving youths carrying knives.
The judge set a plea hearing for September 10 and a provisional trial of both the defendants from March 15 2027.
The 15-year-old defendant, who appeared in the dock, was remanded into youth custody.
