Boyd understands Man Utd are struggling, still believes it's a 'step up' for Rangers

Kris Boyd wants to see the Rangers team that's provided so many memorable European nights when they visit Manchester United on Thursday, rather than the side which has faltered on their travels in the Scottish Premiership

Rangers have won their last three matches across all competitions, scoring 11 goals in the process. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim's team have lost five of their past eight games and are conceding goals at an alarming rate.

Despite that, Boyd still believes that Manchester United will be a "step up" for Rangers, especially since they will have to tackle this penultimate Europa League league-phase tie without several key men.

Previewing the match with Sky Sports, the former Rangers striker said: "If you look at Rangers, their away form has been very good. It will be a different challenge tomorrow going to Old Trafford, there is no doubt about that.

"Manchester United are struggling, there is no getting away from it. I think the assessment from Ruben Amorim, and a lot of people are saying 'why is he saying that?', but a lot of what he's saying is probably true. That's the scary part of it.

"You look at Manchester United and they just seem to be all over the place.

"For Rangers, it's an opportunity to go and maybe get something. For all that Manchester United have been struggling in the Premier League, it is a step up for Rangers. They showed against Tottenham Hotspur that they can cause problems, but that was at home.

"Rangers away from home in Europe have been good, Rangers away from home in the Scottish Premiership have been really poor. So, it will depend on what Rangers team turns up basically for how hard of game that Manchester United are going to have.

"Rangers have got their own problems going into the game. [Mohamed] Diomande is suspended and obviously the way the European selection had to be in a while ago, so players who have been playing well for Rangers recently like [Ianis] Hagi and [Clinton] Nsiala aren't in the squad.

"Philippe Clement has got his own problems to deal with ahead of what will be a huge game at Old Trafford for both clubs."
