Edinburgh-based Boyd Legal has acquired Glenrothes-based Baird & Company in its second deal this year.
The transaction brings Baird & Company partners John McAndrew and Carolyn Bean to the firm as a consultant and head of private client, respectively. Along with their team, they continue to service a portfolio of Fife-based clients.
The firm will also maintain its brand in Fife, rebranding to Baird Legal, with Boyd Legal’s Kirkcaldy practice also taking on this branding.
Managing director Diana Boyd explained: “The essence of what we are about is ensuring that we are a large enough business to have a strong management team - this is increasingly necessary for firms to cope with the complexity of money laundering and all regulatory matters.”
Baird & Company was founded in the 1960s by Donald Baird, with a statement describing the acquisition as a positive move to future-proof the business and its legacy, expanding the team and enhancing its portfolio of legal services.
Boyd said: “Our management team, including new operations director Shona Black, has played a critical role in the acquisition and, going forward, will enable us to strengthen the business while the legal team continues to deliver an excellent legal service.
“Smaller practices are finding it difficult to cope with carrying out legal work and at the same time managing all the regulatory issues,“ she continued, adding: “Increasing consolidation within the legal market is something we are certainly going to see more of.”
Baird & Company has now moved to office five in New Law House, Glenrothes with the main office now at Baird Legal, Townsend Place in Kirkcaldy.
Estate agency is now available as part of Baird Legal’s portfolio, which includes residential and commercial property, equity release, lettings, business acquisitions and sales, executries, trusts, power of attorney and guardianship.
