A boy who had a stroke at 18 months old had his life transformed thanks to an amazing drug that became available on the NHS this year.
Layton Morgan, 10, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis by a heel prick test, also known as a newborn blood spot test, carried out on newborn babies. More than 10,800 people in the UK are living with the incurable, inherited condition.
It causes a build-up of sticky mucus in the lungs and digestive system, leading to digestion problems, a persistent cough, and more susceptibility to lung infections. When Layton was born, he was given a life expectancy of roughly 40, a prospect his mum Jodie struggled to accept.
