A Ukrainian boy travelled over 1,000 kilometres on his own to escape the war, all while carrying just his passport and a phone number on his hand.
The 11-year-old travelled from Zaporizhzhia to the border at Slovakia because his parents had to stay in Ukraine, but was taken care of by volunteers when he reached the border.
In a message on the Facebook page of the Slovakian Ministry of Interior, a spokesperson praised the boy's fearlessness and determination.
They said that the boy had been cared for by volunteers and given food and drink.
Staff managed to contact relatives who came to meet him because of the phone number he had written on his hand when reaching the border.
Defense Minister Roman Mikulec said: "Little Hassan is only 11 years old, but in his way he has shown huge determination, courage and fearlessness that sometimes adults don't have. I am really very sorry for him and all the other children and their families who have to flee their country because of what is happening in Ukraine. Together with his siblings, he already asked for temporary protection."
Around 1.7 million Ukrainian refugees have now fled following the invasion by Russia.
A video of a Ukrainian boy walking across the Polish border on his own has gone viral.
The unnamed boy was captured by TV cameras walking alone with just his backpack at Medyka, Poland.
